Eric Hobbs of Challis is the recipient of the $1,000 Sam Walton Community Scholarship. Eric was presented with the scholarship by the Idaho Falls Sam’s Club for demonstrating high academic achievement and involvement in school, work and community activities.

The Sam Walton Community Scholarship is funded by the Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club Foundation and given annually by every Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club across the country. The award can be applied to tuition, fees, books, and on-campus room and board. This year each location can award two Sam Walton Community Scholarships, totaling more than $6.5 million, to deserving students in Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club communities. Since 1979, Wal-Mart has presented more than $80 million in community scholarships.

“Sam’s Club recognizes that the education of our youth today has a profound impact on the vitality of our communities tomorrow,” said the Sam’s Club manager Cory Asleson. “It’s with that in mind that Wal-Mart invests in the future success of this community through Eric Hobbs.”

Managed by a scholarship administration service, an independent committee of qualified educators selects the Sam Walton Community Scholarship winners. Beginning each December, graduating high school seniors can receive a scholarship application from their high school counselor or local Wal-Mart or Sam’s Club location.
