Mountain Transitions by Jim Connor

Up close… This gray-headed rosy finch was captured and its mugshot taken after it entered the photographer’s home last week. The finch had been chased inside by a hungry merlin, a pigeon hawk, and resisted capture for some hours while hiding inside. It was released in plenty of time of eat a supper of sunflower seeds. Tiny feathers make up its white eye-ring and act as eyelashes. White feathers cover the bird’s nares, nostrils, similar the eve of a thatched roof.
