In search of food

Pronghorn antelope paw through a much lighter snowfall near Gooseberry Creek between Round Valley and Grandview Canyon along Highway 93 last Friday. With the help of the wind and lighter snow, they were able to browse on bare ground. Another herd of pronghorn, or perhaps the same one, was spotted going up the Salmon River Canyon on Sunday, walking along a ditch bank. With heavy snowfall in and around Round Valley, more big game animals have been moving into unusual places in search of food. Hundreds of elk have been seen in and around Round and Pahsimeroi valleys. And, of course, the Challis town deer herd is adapting. The heavy snowfall Round Valley has experienced so far this winter thins out toward the south, but not in other directions.
