80 years loved. Coila “Gayle” Sparks Burton died at home with her family in Challis, Idaho, March 9, 2017. She passed peacefully, surrounded by those who loved her while reminiscing over her scrapbooks and joining more family on the phone. Yes, Gayle loved to stay in touch with all her “Loves.”

She was born in North Platte, Nebraska, to Theodore R. and Helen (Walrath) Sparks on February 11, 1937. Gayle attended business college and worked as an executive assistant in Colorado before marrying and having her three children. Gayle married Gerald M. Burton in January 1958 in Juneau, Alaska, while “Jerry” was finishing his tour in the Coast Guard. She and Gerald raised their three children in the Denver area of Colorado. Gayle loved spending time with family above all. She was also an accomplished vocalist. She was very active in local performing arts as an actress and also as a seamstress. She loved seeing her costume creations on the stage.

She leaves behind her older sister, Gwen Smith; younger brother, Zane Sparks; her three children, James Burton, John Burton and Jeri Helene Wood; her seven grandchildren, Neal, David, Amanda, Joshua, Jameson, Jon and William; and five great-grandchildren, Delila, Hayden, Vivien, Jaxon and Victor. She was preceded in death by the father of her children and her grandson, Christopher James Burton.

A memorial is planned this summer in the Royal Gorge area of Colorado, which holds some of her fondest family memories.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Jones & Casey Funeral Home of Challis, Idaho.
