Shriners holding a meeting

Attention local Shriners and anyone interested in becoming a Shriner: There is a meeting scheduled for Saturday evening, March 25, at the Y-Inn Café. See if you can find your fez, dust it off and bring it.

We will meet and socialize for a while before dinner in the back dining room. Around 6 p.m. we will order dinner off the menu or take advantage of the dinner special, ribeye and prawns. It would be courteous to let us know if you are attending and how many there will be for dinner, so we can pass that information on to Vicki. Several years back the Shriners in Salmon, Challis, Mackay and Arco would rotate meetings once a month in those towns, socialize, have dinner, conduct some business and go home with a sense of pride and accomplishment. Our whole purpose was to relax, enjoy each other’s company, have dinner and occasionally raise money when needed to help pay the travel expenses of a local youth to the Salt Lake Shriners Hospital for orthopedic or other care.

We would like to invite Shriners, Masons, Eastern Star members and anyone interested in any of these organizations or just interested to attend. We will try to answer any questions you might have about the Masonic family. If there is enough interest in the Challis area or in the larger area mentioned above, we might try to revive the Salmon River Shrine Club.

There are several Shriners in the area, and we have been doing several things locally:

• We have donated Shrine Circus tickets to the elementary school kids for prizes at the end of the school year. There were even some East-West High School Shrine Football Game tickets available last fall.

• The last couple of years some of the local Shriners have had gun raffle tickets for sale. The Challis area has had at least two winners in each of the last two years. Not bad odds for an event covering the whole southern part of Idaho.

• Two local Shriners joined the “Tin Lizzies” car club last fall and have four cars locally to run in parades. We are part of the El Korah Shrine “Tin Lizzies” car club with most members from Mountain Home and Boise areas.

Let Carl (879-6825) or Doug (833-4218) know if you are interested in attending the meeting or have any questions.
