Ready to go fishin’

Spring has sprung, snow is melting, and that means the skiing, boating and steelhead fishing seasons are overlapping in Salmon River country. Above, the photographer’s cats, Sunny and Shyloh, had fun jumping in and out of his tandem canoe while he was rigging it during a previous season. So far, he hasn’t persuaded the felines to actually float the river, although they follow him like dogs on nighttime walks. Note that inner tubes work well as a poor man’s flotation bags in the event of a canoe capsize. Those made by boating companies cost more. So do life preservers for dogs, but they’re worth every penny for animal lovers. The cats would no doubt have to settle for small dog life jackets and would be mad if the pilot capsized the canoe.
