Elk Mountain/Dry Creek project meeting set for April 26
The Sawtooth National Recreation Area would like to invite all interested parties to a public meeting to discuss an upcoming Forest health project in the Elk Mountain and Dry Creek area. The community meeting in conjunction with the Sawtooth Valley Wildland Fire Collaborative group will be held Wednesday, April 26, at the Stanley Community Building on Highway 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. and will include a discussion and presentation regarding the Elk Mountain East Vegetation Management Project. All interested parties are invited to attend and provide comments.
The goals of the vegetation management project are (1) to restore and maintain health of the vegetation due to insect and disease infestations and the long-term exclusion of fire and (2) to reduce the amount of accumulated fuel, reducing the risk of large, severe fire in the area. “It’s a great opportunity for the public to get involved with the planning process and discuss with Forest Service Staff working on the project how they should be carried out and implemented,” according to Michelle Erdie, Sawtooth NRA fuels planner. “We encourage folks to come to the public meeting and share your suggestions and comments.”
If you have any questions about the meeting or would like information about the project, please contact Michelle Erdie at 208-727-5036.
