Good Old Days of Custer County

Turkeys released – Ten Marriam wild turkeys were released near Challis Feb. 26 by the Idaho Dept. of Fish & Game. Turkeys are not native to Idaho but have been successfully introduced to several areas of the state. Turkeys released here two years ago have been successful in hatching and rearing young. The new turkeys, brought in from South Dakota, are intended to diversify the genes of the local fledgling flock. They are accustomed to even colder winters than ours.

Doe be nimble

This mule deer doe was curious about the photographer and his cats during a walk along the path adjacent to Challis Cemetery on a recent warm winter day and got pretty close. Todd Adams photos

The nimble doe decided she was too close and easily jumped over the fence to join other members of the Challis town herd in the cemetery.

About Folks We Know

Madge Yacomella, left, is Silver Leaf Rebekahs’ new Vice Grand and Shannon Munson, right, is the new Noble Grand.

This would be a good time to point out how amazing our school administrators, teachers and parents are. I love the students. Just being a grandparent is a hard job.
