Good Old Days of Custer County

Sinkhole dumpsite — “I’ve never in my life seen anything like it,” said Vivian Ivie of the Lost River Highway District. Ivie was referring to the infamous Antelope Flat Sinkhole south of Mackay, an illegal dumpsite that has been used by local residents for nearly a century. Anthony Vale and Jane Williams, standing on the road above the sinkhole, are no strangers to garbage. They live in New York.

Directing a stage full of rabbits

Jordan Leggett, actor-director for Missoula Children’s Theatre, coaches a bunch of bunny rabbits onstage during dress rehearsal for the MCT performance of “The Tortoise Versus the Hare” last weekend. The feel-good, humorous MCT version featured a large cast of Challis children of all ages and put a twist on the classic tale, adding original music, humor, TV sports coverage, commercials, a missing Bonnie Bunny, cheerleading squads of mammals and reptiles and a photo finish to the race.
