Silver Bit Classic Back in Challis

Three days of team roping returned to Challis with the 25th annual Silver Bit Classic. A total of 568 teams paired off to compete, and ropers took home $47,000 in cash and prizes.

Mountain Transitions

Lettuce chilled under ice… One leaf lettuce plant in the photographer’s garden, a black-seeded Simpson type, performed exceptionally well during the past summer. This single plant provided ample lettuce from early May into August. It was allowed to bloom in order to save the seeds. Ice formed thickly on the flowers during a recent night of freezes because a sprinkler was left running. Flowers and developing seeds were unharmed by the ice and cold.

Flying machines seen out and about

This Cessna Citation was the only jet parked on the tarmac at Challis Airport this summer. The pilot is Jim “Haggy” Hagedorn.

Interesting aircraft are often seen at the Challis Airport. This past summer there were two that caught The Challis Messenger’s eye.
