Christmas program

If there’s a public event in Challis and music is involved, you’ll often find Evelyn Strand accompanying singers and other muscians as she did last Friday evening for the 27th Annual Town Tree Lighting and Christmas Concert. Here, she plays for the Seventh Street Singers (Fran Stark, Laurie Anderson and Jeanie Mullins, not pictured). In the background are other talented local singers and musicians who entertained a slightly smaller-than-average crowd, perhaps due to cold, snowy but seasonal weather. Organizers Jack and Eileen Hardy arranged things onstage to look like a family living room. See more photos in next week’s issue of The Messenger.

New tree christened

Jack and Eileen Hardy have conducted the annual Challis Town Tree Lighting and Christmas Concert for years. Here they’re pictured with some local singing students, Robert Hardy, Brodee Hunting, Makayla Bruno and Lane Hunting. The Hardys kicked the 27th annual family program off last week with the help of Challis Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Melissa Perkins Fitzgerald, who lit the town’s new tree, also shown here. Local cowboy poet Ellie Corrigan wrote and recited a poem about the new tree. A host of local talented singers and musicians performed, and the crowd joined in on the traditional finale, “Silent Night.”

Sunny and warm?

That’s a forecast we no longer have in this part of central Idaho with the onset of true winter weather this week. However, this bighorn sheep ram and ewe, plus a few others in their herd, appeared to be enjoying what may have been the last warm rays of sunshine for the year just up Highway 75 from the Challis buffalo jump last weekend.
