Howard home burns Thursday morning

The small log cabin looked to be entirely consumed by flame and belching smoke a few minutes after the fire department arrived. Early reports indicate two of the occupants were not home and the third was able to get out.

The rumbling noise you hear at O-dark-thirty on a snowy, winter morning is probably not another earthquake, but the City of Challis crew out plowing the streets. Corey Rice, Cameron Davis and Alex Sarinana are cheerful, dedicated and seem to enjoy their jobs. Recently they cleared Main Street in a single pass with three snowplows side by side, a photo op this photographer missed. The Challis crew might have to put up with some grumbling from people whose driveways are blocked by plowed-up snow, but citizens of other central Idaho towns are complaining about impassable streets during their morning commutes.
