Anthony Tappan lets his 8 1/2-year-old daughter Kenzie row the driftboat down the Salmon River on a nice weekend afternoon of steelhead fishing. In the bow and stern are Amber and Toby Shields, respectively. The foursome put in at Watts Bridge and were fishing a hole above Shep Creek. “The fishin’ is good but the catching sucks,” Tappan told The Challis Messenger photographer. That’s probably because temperatures, water levels and turbidity were a bit elevated. A flood watch, combined with chances of rain, is on through Friday night, so steelhead anglers may have to make do with less than ideal conditions.
