Mountain Transitions by Jim Connor

The color of cheatgrass is as delicate as the soft leaves. This grass, an invasive weed, starts growing in the autumn and is ready to take on all native and desirable plants near it. This clump in a garden has a huge body of roots and would be difficult to pull by hand. It provides spring forage for ungulates of all kinds when it is young and tender.
