Floodwaters drop as temperatures cool

Valley Creek near Stanley reached flood stage and overflowed its banks last week, turning that part of Sawtooth Valley into a wetland. Temperatures cooled and water levels dropped this week. While no major flood damage has been reported in Custer County so far this spring, water has flowed across highways and washed down side roads. A man died in a flooded basement in Ketchum, where the Big Wood River has caused more extensive damage and prompted evacuations in some areas. Mike Graham photo
