Georgia Alene Skeen, 90, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013 in Challis, Idaho. Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, March 7, 2013, 2 p.m. at the Community Church U.C.C., in Challis, with burial in Challis Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Georgia Alene (Osborn) Skeen was born July 9, 1922 in Benkelman, Nebraska, the daughter of Jesse Earl Osborn and Mary Alice Steward. They made their home in Nebraska with brother William B. Osborn and sister Clearcie Hice. When Georgia was 12, the family moved to Idaho. She married Alfred R. Skeen on December 14, 1938 at Challis, Idaho. She lived 76 years in Challis. She was the natural mother of four children and many others, who needed mothering. She was a Sunday school teacher, 4-H leader, and Club Scout den mother. She joined the Silver Leaf Rebekah Lodge #27 and went through the offices twice, receiving a 50-year pin. She helped start the Rebekahs Memorial Scholarship Fund of which four of her grandchildren were recipients. She helped start the Senior Class Luncheon in 1959. She and the other Rebekahs began selling cinnamon rolls at the Rod & Gun shoots several years ago, and will be missed by the members. She was also a member of the Community Church U.C.C. She raised a big garden and shared with everyone. She grew beautiful flowers, inside and out, that she loved caring for. She attended all of her children’s and grandchildren’s basketball, football and track events. She spent many hours sitting on the bleachers. She loved camping in an old school bus with Alfred. The couple would travel to Arizona for the winter, only after the basketball season was finished. She is survived by sons Mel Skeen of Salmon, Idaho, Dale (Karen) Skeen, Earl (Mary) Skeen, all of Challis; daughter Hazel Crane of Challis; 13 grandchildren: Todd Skeen of Salmon; Angie Skeen and Carrie (Mike) Shippy of Salmon; Bret Ward of Twin Falls, Idaho; Dodie Waitzig of Salmon; Alfred Crane of Boise; Rob (Cindy) Crane of Challis; Patty Sensabaugh of Challis; Kelli Skeen of Mesa, Arizona; Jennifer (Jessie Robinson) Skeen and Mary Skeen of San Diego, California; Richard (Celina) Skeen of San Antonio, Texas; and Becky (Justin) Mitchell of Stanley, Idaho; 33 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Vivian Skeen of Wasilla, Alaska. She was preceded in death by husband Alfred of 61 years; brother Bill Osborn; sister Clearcie Hice; grandson Ben Crane; son-in-law Earl Crane; and daughter-in-law Marilyn Easter.
