Ruth Cobbley Leaton
Ruth Cobbley Leaton, 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep June 20, 2014 at Discovery Care Centre in Salmon, Idaho.

Ruth was born August 9, 1920 in Darlington, Idaho to Ernest and Nellie Cobbley, the seventh of 10 children. The family later moved to Challis where Ruth spent her childhood. Ruth graduated from Challis High School in 1939.

Ruth married her sweetheart, Harold "Hank" Leaton, on June 4, 1939. After a brief honeymoon in Dillon, Montana, they moved to the Drake Ranch outside Challis. Ruth worked as a cook for the ranch hands while Hank worked as the foreman. While living on the ranch, two children, Afton and Ralph, were born to the couple.

Several years later, the young family moved back to Challis where their two younger children, Marilyn and Doug, were born. Ruth and Hank enjoyed the rest of their years together in Challis raising their children, nurturing their grandchildren and being near both family and lifelong friends. During their years in Challis, Ruth and Hank owned and operated a successful hair salon and barbershop.

Throughout her life, Ruth enjoyed gardening, oil painting, crocheting, knitting, needlework and embroidery.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Harold "Hank"; her son, Ralph; her grandson, Sean Leaton; brothers Elvin, Roy, Ralph and Bill Cobbley; and sisters Hazel Oscarson, Maureen Dickson, Amy Chivers, Sherma Haag and Bette Savage.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Afton Leaton of Phoenix, Arizona and Marilyn Weible of Boise, Idaho; son Doug Leaton of Douglas, Wyoming; granddaughters Kristina Gillespie of Boise, and Rarni (Kyle) Farnsworth of Moab, Utah; grandson, Michael (Kelly) Weible of Dillon, Montana; great-granddaughters Ashlee and Lillian Gillespie and Brook Schultz; great-grandsons Braydon Schultz and Joshua and Caleb Weible; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held for Ruth at the Challis Cemetery on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 1 p.m. in Challis. Arrangements by Jones & Casey Funeral Home of Salmon, Idaho. www.jonesand
